A Des Moines teacher is on a mission once again.
When students had to learn from home due to the pandemic, he offered free wooden desks to children in need.
Nate Evans from Des Moines Christian Middle School is behind the nonprofit “Woodworking for a Purpose.”
Now, he’s giving away free books and bookshelves to students this Saturday afternoon.
Through donation money, he teamed up with Ankeny Farrells and purchased bookshelves to help more families in the Des Moines area this school year.
“My priority with this is as a teacher, as a reading teacher too, is to promote education at home and at school,” Evans said.
The giveaway runs from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Farrells Ankeny North.
There are more than 100 brand new bookshelves available. The nonprofit is still accepting donations.
