Darien Library Offers 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program – HamletHub

Get your child excited to read with a fun challenge!
Darien Library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a way to encourage adults and children to read together and helps introduce children to learn as much vocabulary as possible before they enter kindergarten. Children who have experienced a larger vocabulary have a higher chance of success in kindergarten. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends reading to infants, starting from birth to aid in brain development and vocabulary growth.
Any child who has not yet entered kindergarten can sign up. To get started, stop by the Children’s Library Desk at Darien Library to sign up. You will receive the log for the first 100 books, a growth chart with book suggestions and early literacy tips, and a sticker! Log books your child has read over and over again, books they’ve heard at storytimes, audiobooks, and books in different languages. Once you and your child complete the first log together, bring it back to Darien Library for your next log, another sticker, and to check out more books. To keep motivation high, your child will earn special prizes when you submit the logs for their first 100 books, 500 books, and when they log all 1000 books. This program is ongoing, so you can sign up at any time!
More information about the program can be found online at www.darienlibrary.org/page/1000-books
