Local bookstores are taking on Amazon and winning – KCUR

Book sales have been consistently strong during the pandemic, but big companies like Amazon have mostly benefited. In bookstores, though, sales fell nearly 30% last year. KCUR’s Mackenzie Martin explains what indie booksellers in Kansas and Missouri have done to compete with the big guys and partially redefine what a bookstore is.
The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art in Sedalia, Missouri, opened in 2002 and hosts a boundless collection of works — including from world renowned artists Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, and Ansel Adams. KCUR’s Laura Spencer has details on the latest show from nine Kansas City women, which celebrates family and tackles environmental issues and social justice.
