Camilla recently became a Patron of Silver Stories, the charity which connects children with older people with a shared love of reading. Silver Stories was established in 2016 by Elisabeth Carney Haworth and her husband.

The aim was to reduce loneliness in older people by creating intergenerational relationships, and increasing the literary skills of children.
The child, referred to as the Silver Reader, reads parts of their favourite books out loud to the older adult, the Silver Listener during a five to ten-minute long phone call.
The project improves children’s reading capabilities and provides social interaction for the older individual.
The Duchess of Cornwall spoke with children involved in the project this week, and called two Silver readers to encourage them.

Camilla also paid tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh during the public engagement over the weekend.
The Duke of Edinburgh was interested in book reading and even held the patronage of BookTrust.
Camilla has now inherited this role and she has dedicated her book club’s reading list to the late Prince who tragically died aged 99 in April.
An Instagram post was shared by Clarence House showing Camilla speaking to the children, and a photo of Prince Philip and the Queen can be seen in the background.

She told them: “I am sure you help the older generation so much by reading to them. It must cheer up their days, she told 11-year-old Teagan and 10-year-old Ollie during the phone call.
The two children read in front of the Duchess of Cornwall.
Ollie read the Ice Monster by David Walliams and Teagen chose to read an excerpt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
“It must be so cheering for them to hear your voice reading these lovely stories.”

“I think you’re doing an absolutely brilliant job. So, thank you very much indeed.”
The Duchess of Cornwall also paid tribute to Prince Philip by dedicating four books to the Duke of Edinburgh to launch season two of her online book club in April.
She wrote: “As Patron of BookTrust, which I inherited from my late father-in-law His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, I would like to dedicate the next series of my Reading Room to him, in memory of a great fellow reader.”
